The view of the damage (a couple fallen limbs) from my back window.
Excuse the poor style and heavy concentration of links in this post. It is meant to be a general description of ‘Irene’s’ aftermath told through a number of local news sources.
Hurricane Irene may have eroded in strength from ‘hurricane’ to ‘tropical storm’ , as she churned up the Atlantic coast, but her fury has no doubt left much ruin in its wake; unleashing her wrath as far South as Florida and North as Maine, even inching across the border into Canada.
So far as many as twenty-one people in eight states have been reported as casualties of Irene, and millions could still be lacking power for the coming week. Some time in the early afternoon , Irene which had already reeked havoc in such states as North Carolina and Virginia ( even washing a live shark into the streets in Puerto Rico days ago) was downgraded to the status of a tropical storm as it headed north towards southern New England.

Pleasant Street Video (Pic courtesy of: Skytemple.com)
Sobering news for cinefanatics in the Pioneer Valley, especially Northampton. As many already know Pleasant Street Video, the old-fashioned video rental store on the corner of Armory street and Pleasant Street in the downtown area, will forever close its doors two weeks from today. Its shelves were stocked with hard to find titles, foreign films from just about every country on the map, and experimental films. The close comes as the old video store business that first came about in the early to mid eighties is dying out with the birth of the internet, Netflix, and red box services.
This Sunday will be the last chance to rent out or renew any rentals, though the store will remain open until Saturday July 16 to collect movies that need to be returned, accept donations for their effort to sell their film collection to the Forbes Library, and for what will no doubt be a multitude of heartfelt goodbyes. My computer isn’t set up yet (hopefully the needed part will come today and my brother’s friend will be able to service the computer as needed); so a further article and photographs should be posted on this by the end of next week.

Well 6pm Eastern time came. Despite a small earthquake in the San Fransisco Bay area, it appears we are not engulfed in flames. If the most we get tonight is a minor earthquake in California, then I think its safe to say the world is not about to end but just showing a few cracks.
‘ as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.’—- 2 Peter 3:16.
Camping though is hardly alone, many others predictions have been made in the past with much the same result.
